West-Country based voice and piano partnership Penelope Appleyard and Jonathan Delbridge perform creative and entertaining recital programmes on historical themes. They are currently focussing on domestic music of the Regency era.

Frequently to be found in period costume, chauffeuring 209 year old Broadwood square piano Lady Catherine around the UK in a Skoda estate, Penelope and Jonathan are now touring their programme 'Sense & Musicality' on the theme of Jane Austen and Music, in celebration of the writer's 250th Anniversary.

With research and original scripts by Penny, they are delighted to be appearing in festivals, concert series and at historic sites nationwide, and are currently taking bookings well into 2026. Still in their first year of performing together they have already given sold out performances at the Newbury Spring Festival and Jane Austen's House, and been featured on BBC Radio3's Breakfast Show.
They have commissioned 'Ode to Pity', a rare song setting of an Austen poem by composer Donna McKevitt, written especially for 'Sense & Musicality'. This was released alongside two further Austen related singles (Song from Burns and Robin Adair) in September, with a launch concert at Bath Abbey as part of the Jane Austen Festival 2025. They will be giving an online talk entitled ‘A Song for Jane’ about the commission for lecture series Jane Austen & Co in November.
They are delighted to be presenting their first festive programme ‘Jane Austen’s Christmas Gaiety’ for the online concert series Live from London (tickets here: https://www.livefromlondon.org/xmas25-austen) and will be kicking off 2026 with a new Pride and Prejudice themed programme ‘A Musical Kind of Little Wilderness’ at Jane Austen’s House on Burns Night.
